Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen ensured that Nigeria began their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifiers with a 3-0 win over Benin Republic.
Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, was set roaring with Africa’s best player and Ballon d’Or nominee putting up stellar performances to put smiles on the face of interim boss, Augustine Eguavoen.
Lookman, who recently got nominated for the 2024 Ballon d’Or awards opened scoring for the Super Eagles in the dying moment of the first half.
Entering the second 45 minutes, substitute Osimhen flashed in the second goal.
The star forward, who recently had a fall out with Napoli, failed to make the starting lineup, but lit up the stadium with his quick impact.
He was introduced into the game, replacing Victor Boniface in the 72nd minute, and scored just six-minute later.
Lookman capped off the evening with his second, firing into the corner to set the AFCON runners up on their way to making it to Morocco for the next edition.
